Looking ahead to the autumn, Lloret de Mar is continuing to consolidate MICE tourism in the destination with the hosting of major new corporate events, such as the annual convention of OKQ8, Sweden’s leading chain of filling stations, with a workforce of over 2,600 employees.

OKQ8 has confirmed the hosting of its annual convention, from 28th September to 5th October, in Lloret de Mar. The event will be attended by 550 managers from Sweden and Denmark.

Although Lloret de Mar already has a well-established track record in the MICE tourism sector, the structuring of the Lloret Convention Bureau has provided a new boost to this segment.

The action plan of the Lloret Convention Bureau includes sales calls to potential corporate customers and promotional actions in partnership with other supra-municipal bodies, such as the Catalunya Convention Bureau and the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau, which in the words of the Councillor for Tourism, Jordi Orobitg, “has made it possible to increase the visibility of the destination’s potential in this segment and to attract new corporate events organised by international brands.”

During the first half of 2014 Lloret de Mar has hosted several events for international companies and brands, such as the convention held by the Bird & Bird international law firm, which brought over 50 lawyers from its 25 global offices to the destination, or the corporate meetings organised by two leading skin care and cosmetics companies, Avène and Nivea.

According to the MICE tourism data for Lloret de Mar, in 2013 over 50% of the meetings held in the destination were corporate conventions and incentive events, outstripping the figures for public sector conferences and seminars. In 2013 over 150 meetings were held in Lloret de Mar with over 20,000 delegates.
