For the fourth time in a row, Lloret de Mar has been chosen by FETESS Catalonia (Federation of Senior Health and Science Technicians) to host its biannual conference. Following the success of the 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions, the 2019 edition has been expanded into a national congress

Having been chosen to host the last three editions of the biannual Scientific Conference of the Professional Union of Senior Health Technicians of Catalonia (FETESS Catalonia), Lloret de Mar has this year hosted the event for the fourth time, on this occasion expanded into the first National Congress of the Spanish Society of Senior Health Technicians (SETSS).

These biannual conferences have become a firm fixture in Lloret de Mar’s events calendar. Following the success of the 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions, the 2019 edition has also been expanded into a national congress that aims to become a leading event within the specialised scientific community.

These conferences aim to develop cross-cutting knowledge of different pathologies and issues that concern senior health technicians (TSS). With this in mind, the organising committee puts together a programme of expert speakers who focus on the specialised areas of TSS in the hospital sector: clinical and biomedical laboratory work, image diagnosis and nuclear medicine, pathological anatomy and cytodiagnosis, radiotherapy and dosimetry, and dietetics. The conference also focuses on patients affected by various pathologies and their importance in the world today.

The national congress of senior health technicians took place at the Olympic Congress Centre. Over two days, more than 170 senior health technicians discussed issues related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of haematological and oncological diseases.

Although Lloret de Mar has always specialised in corporate events, training days, courses and small-scale congresses of the associative sector are being held increasingly frequently in the destination, thanks to its proximity to Barcelona and to the quality, versatility and competitiveness of its meeting spaces and conference centres.

All we can do is thank the LCB for welcoming us in 2013 with Elizabeth Keegan at the helm. She went out of her way for us year after year before passing the baton to Montse Belisario, who has been just as flexible and helpful in order to ensure that the event is always a success, while putting Lloret de Mar on the map as an ideal destination for this type of event.

“Traditionally Lloret de Mar has hosted corporate events, but in recent years we have also successfully consolidated various events in the associative sector, in particular the health sector, which offers us new business opportunities as a destination. We’re very pleased with the consolidation of the senior health technician conferences in Lloret and for the trust that FETESS Catalonia has shown in us by hosting its event four times in our town thanks to our facilities and the assistance offered through the Lloret Convention Bureau and its members,” says Montse Belisario, Director of the Lloret Convention Bureau.

Lloret de Mar has further boosted its specialisation in the associative sector by hosting other similar events in 2019, such as the 9^th Congress of the Catalan Society of Cytopathology, which took place on 7 and 8 June, or some of events of the 31^st Congress of the Spanish Society of Accident and Emergency Medicine (SEMES), held in Girona from 5 to 7 June.

The services provided by the LCB comprised offering assistance to the conference organisers at all times, organising the presence of institutional representatives for the inaugural ceremony of the conference, the provision of a conference delegate pack (including a folder, notepad, lanyard for accreditation, delegate bag and tourist information on the destination), and the organisation of an activity to make visitors familiar with the town.
